USTA New Tiebreaker Rules
Starting this year the State of North Carolina will require the use of the Coeman Tiebreaker Format. The Coeman Tiebreaker procedure is identical to the regular tiebreaker procedure except that the players change ends after the first point and then after every four points, and at the conclusion of the tiebreaker. The principle advantages of this procedure are first fairness - by changing ends more frequently, the effects of the elements (sun, wind, etc.) are distributed more evenly between the two opponents as opposed to playing six consecutive points before changing ends and in doubles, and second - the server will always serve from the same end of the court, rather than having to serve from both ends.
USTA Redistricting and Spring League Date
Due to the state wide redistricting of local leagues, the "Old Downeast" has become three separate local leagues. The three new local leagues are Coastal Plains, Neuse and Albemarle. We are in the Albemarle area. Beginning with the spring league season for 2010, each of the three local leagues will function independently. There is a local league coordinator for each area along with separate local regulations, calendars, policies and schedules. Therefore, EACH local league will determine local champions for advancement to state tournaments. Our League Coordinator for the Albemarle Area is Jim Scott.
Important Dates:
Registration: January 1 - February 4
Captain's Meeting: To be determined
Adult League Play: March 1 - May 30
